SCALE

463 competitors

Entries at the last championship (AMC2026). 3,700 people came to watch.

Everyone stands on the same stage

Many competitors come from overseas. Spa therapists, estheticians, clinical practitioners, Thai massage therapists, seitai practitioners — techniques from fields that rarely meet line up side by side in the same venue. It is a place to see the latest international technique live.

What you gain by entering

  1. A competition-floor station (Table 2)

Get your own score — and see the gap to the top

Since the last championship, we have disclosed scores. You can see your own score at a glance, and which parts of your work earned points and which did not. The scores of the medallists and of everyone placed up to tenth are disclosed too, so the gap to the top is a number rather than a feeling. You leave the venue knowing what to work on next. The organizing office shares scores with anyone who asks.

  2. AMC2026 competitors, judges, staff and volunteers

    Across trades, and across borders

Spa therapists, estheticians, clinical practitioners, Thai massage therapists, seitai practitioners — people who rarely share a room can talk with each other in the waiting area and on the floor. With many competitors coming from overseas, you can see the latest techniques from around the world right in front of you. Your technique grows with every pair of hands you watch.

  3. A treatment on the competition floor

A reason to face your own technique

The months between deciding to enter and the day itself are where most of the growth happens. The moment you commit to doing it in public, you start questioning every step of your routine. Day-to-day work rarely gives you a reason to push that hard. More than once we have been told that this stretch mattered more than the competition.

  4. Award ceremony, Thai Massage division

Your clients get behind you, and your salon gets a story

Tell your clients you are competing internationally and they will cheer you on. Competing becomes part of your salon's brand, and some competitors have told us their sales doubled. It works well on social media too: one competitor's reels reached 18–20 million views and gained tens of thousands of followers. *These are individual experiences and results; similar outcomes are not guaranteed.

  5. A judge presents the Freestyle Western award

A route into the media — and the work beyond it

A medal carries weight. Past medallists have been invited abroad as judges and now teach seminars around the world. Taro Yamaguchi, overall champion of MCWT 2025, was filmed for the documentary series Jounetsu Tairiku and has since appeared on prime-time programmes well outside this industry. The full list is on our media page.

  6. A therapist's hands gliding along a back

Raising what this whole trade is worth

Treatment skill only ever happens on a client's body. That makes it invisible from the outside, and hard to put a price on. Expressing it in front of others and moving the person who receives it is what raises the value of the skill itself. As AI takes on more and more of the world's work, the value of a skill that lives in your hands will only grow. That this industry has a stage on which to refine and express that skill is, in itself, a reason to enter.

What happened after competing

"[Sales doubled] From a world championship to opening my dream salon!" A competitor talks about what happened after the championship. From the YouTube channel of Takuto Kawakami (World's No.1 Therapist). *These are individual experiences and results; similar outcomes are not guaranteed.

If you are on the fence

  • Can I enter if it is my first time?

Yes, you can. There is no minimum number of years, and many first-time competitors enter every edition.

  • I'm not sure which division to enter

Pick the division closest to the treatment you give most often. What each of the six covers, and what the judges look for, is set out on the divisions page.

  • How much of the scoring is published?

For a period of about one month after the championship, the organizing office will share scores with anyone who requests them.

  • Can I enter from outside Japan?

Yes. Many international competitors took part last time too. If you live outside Japan, you can enter on this site, following the same steps as entrants in Japan. See the entry page for details.
