What judges look for
Judges are not looking for unusual moves. They are looking at what is happening to the person on the table.
- Consistency of pressure — does it hold from the start of a stroke to the end, without dropping or spiking
- Transitions — when you move from one area to the next, do the hands leave the body and break the flow
- Use of body weight — are you pushing with your arms, or generating pressure from stance and weight transfer
- Draping — modesty, warmth, and how quietly you work
- Design of the whole session — how the 30 minutes are allocated, and how much of it goes to the recipient's requests
How judging works, at a glance
Entry

Scoring

Placings
Placings are decided per category. Ties are broken in a set order
Who this division is for

Ku Nye (Tibetan Massage)
クニェ(チベット伝統マッサージ)བསྐུ་མཉེ་ (bsku mnye)
Ku Nye is the manual therapy of Sowa Rigpa, Tibetan traditional medicine, in three stages: ku, anointing with warm medicated oil or butter; nye, kneading, pressure and joint movement; and chi, wiping the oil away with flour. Recorded in the Four Tantras (Gyud Zhi) compiled between the 8th and 12th centuries, it uses heated stones and herbal compresses alongside the hands, on a theory of balancing the three humours (lung, tripa, beken). It is taught today in Dharamsala, in Tibet and at schools in Europe.

Hammam (Turkish and Moroccan Bath Massage)
ハマム(トルコ式・モロッコ式浴場マッサージ)حمّام / Hamam
The hammam is the steam bath-house that developed in the Islamic world from the Roman and Byzantine public baths, and the sequence of body care performed there. In the Turkish form, the tellak (bath attendant) scrubs the skin with a coarse kese mitt and kneads the whole body in foam (köpük) on a heated marble platform (göbek taşı). The Moroccan form uses black soap (savon beldi), a kessa glove, ghassoul clay and argan oil. It carries both the religious meaning of purification and the role of a social gathering place.

Frequently asked questions
- Do I bring my own oil?
- You bring it. No oil is provided at the venue, so please bring the one you normally use — scent and viscosity change how the work lands.
- Do I bring my own model?
- No. Competitors take turns acting as each other’s models, so you do not need to bring anyone (a companion cannot serve as your model). If circumstances make this impossible, please contact the organising office before entering.
